Description

Starting on Monday 30th March and until Wednesday 1st April, Venezi@Opportunità, a Special Agency of the Venice Chamber of Commerce - in collaboration with the ICE and the Lison Pramaggiore DOC Wine Consortium – will be hosting a delegation of international wine journalists in the Province of Venice. About 12 journalists from all over the world will so have the opportunity to discover the wines, winegrowers and territory of the Doges’ vineyards.

In its fourth consecutive year, the initiative organised by Venezi@opportunità aims to introduce the wines of Venice’s provincial district to the international press. This year it will focus on the eastern part of the province, which is the area with the strongest winegrowing vocation. Indeed, the Lison Pramaggiore DOC area can boast a number of distinctive characteristics, such as being the DOC area with the greatest number of wine producers in the Province of Venice, the area with the largest share of organic wine production in Italy and, in general, a wine region famous for easy drinking everyday wines with a good price-quality ratio. However, despite all this, this wine growing area and its wines are still little known abroad.

For this reason, Venezi@Opportunità is organising this 2009 Educational Tour for specialised wine sector mass media. The initiative was made possible thanks to the precious collaboration of the Italian Institute for Foreign Trade (ICE) of Rome, which is welcoming journalists to Italy during the week preceding Vinitaly in Verona, on occasion of the International Wine Competition.

The international press has again chosen the tour in the Province of Venice this year, not only on account of the undeniable fascination and attraction of the lagoon’s capital city, but also because of the variety and completeness of the tour programme.

The Educational Tour 2009 will start on the first day with the official inauguration to be held in Venice, on the new premises of the Venice Chamber of Commerce at the Zattere, followed by a luncheon on the Hotel Europa Regina’s terrace facing the Canal Grande and a sightseeing walk to discover the beautiful landmarks and architectural monuments of St. Mark’s Square and the water bound city. In the afternoon, the delegation will travel to the area of Portogruaro, where they will be staying for the two following days, visiting vineyards, winemaking facilities and tasting the wines of the La Pracurte, Savian, F.lli Piazza, Ai Galli and Ornella Bellia wine estates.

The visits to the wine cellars will be interspersed with lunches and dinners at the wine estates, as well as in typical restaurants in the Province: journalists will thus have the chance to taste products from the mainland, proposed in the menus served by the Favro family of the “La Pracurte” wine estate and by chef Andrea Vecchiato (in collaboration with the students from the Lepido Rocco Cooks’ School) at the “Ai Galli” vineyard. They will also enjoy a traditional seafood menu served on Tuesday evening at the “Al Cacciatore” restaurant of San Giorgio di Livenza.

On Wednesday, the final day of their stay, the journalists will leave the wine cellars to resume their visit to the territory and its beautiful landscapes and cultural environments. In collaboration with the Caorle tourist office (APT), a guided tour of the archaeological site of Concordia Sagittaria will be organised for them in the morning, after which they will board a boat on the Lemene River and travel across the entire lagoon of Caorle to reach a traditional fishing hut (casone da pesca), where the delegation will taste seafood dishes cooked by local fishermen.

From Venice, through the vineyards of the Doges, back to the lagoon of Caorle, in the constantly alternating scenario between water and land, which makes the combination of history, art, work and passion, products and tastes of our Province unique and extraordinary.
